Safety essentials for Winter months

Winter driving can be very tricky with rainy weather and foggy roads…That is why we have compiled this five-point winter safety checklist to refresh your memory and to make sure your ride is smooth!

1. Slow down

It is always important to drive slowly on slippery roads, but you should take extra care in winter. Wet weather can make surfaces slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.

2. Beware of fogs

Tropical winter can bring fog and mist, reducing visibility on the roads. Use your vehicle’s fog lights or low beams to see and be seen by other drivers, keep a safe distance from vehicle ahead to allow for sudden stops.

3. Take extra care when moving off

Whether you are moving off forwards or in reverse, take an extra moment to fully scan your surroundings. It’s also a good time to make sure your windows aren’t fogged, dirty or wet. If they are, park your vehicle and clean them.

4. Check tire tread and pressure regularly

Good tire traction is crucial for driving safely on wet roads. Ensure your tires have sufficient tread depth and are inflated to the recommended pressure. Bald tires can significantly increase the risk of skidding or hydroplaning on wet surfaces.

5. Be cautious on winding roads

Many tropical islands have winding coastal roads with steep cliffs. During the winter season, these roads may be more prone to landslides or rock falls due to heavy rainfall. Pay close attention to warning signs and be prepared to adjust your driving speed accordingly...
